The resort is a showcase of the Ozarks as Johnny Morris imagines them — handsome timber and stone architecture, wildlife art, fishing heritage everywhere — and the attention to landscape is real: trails, streams and lake frontage are woven through the property, and the Top of the Rock area adds a nature-and-history experience on the bluffs above the lake. The Lost Canyon Cave cart trail is the family favorite, best taken toward sunset so you can stay for dinner and the views.

Stay craft: choose a private log cabin for couples or families wanting space and a fireplace, a lodge room for convenience to dining, or a lakeside cottage for water views. Reserve dining and the Lost Canyon Cave trail ahead in peak seasons. Plan one day for Fantastic Caverns and Springfield, one for the lake, and one for Branson's shows or Dogwood Canyon.

Practicals and fit: 190 Top of the Rock Road, Ridgedale, Missouri, just south of Branson and about an hour from Springfield. Pair with Fantastic Caverns, Branson and Table Rock Lake. Fit: families, couples and road-trippers who want a resort stay with a cave twist.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there really a cave at the resort?

At Top of the Rock, the Lost Canyon Cave and Nature Trail takes guests by electric cart along a winding route of about two and a half miles through a cave with a bar inside and past waterfalls. It is an attraction rather than a natural show cave.

How far is Fantastic Caverns?

About an hour north near Springfield — an easy day trip to America's ride-through cave.

Which accommodation should we choose?

Private log cabins for space and fireplaces, lodge rooms for easy access to dining, or lakeside cottages for water views. Book early for summer and holidays.
